Time out <g> California doesn't stop the sale of woodstoves. *Some* cities
have regulations against them. And, quite frankly, it makes sense because
those cities are wall to wall houses and there is no way that having that
many houses spewing wood smoke wouldn't be harmful to a whole bunch of
people.

Besides the fact that it makes no sense to use wood heat in those cities.
All the wood has to be hauled in and is selling for up to SIX HUNDRED dollars a cord! You can heat a house for way less using plain ol' natural gas!

The city of Santa Rosa is one such city. It is hard enough to breath there
a lot of the time since they sit in a bowl and the inversion layer is quite
oppresive even without woodsmoke.

When you get outside the major cities, every lumberyard and hardware store
sells woodstoves and most of them aren't the expensive EPA approved models!

I have thoroughly enjoyed and benefited from this discussion. Our heads
have been spinning trying to come to a decision. I am glad today to
read also from those with first-hand experience with the epa approved
class of stoves.

I am one now to be mindful of environmental effects. I haven't been able
to avoid wondering why Oregon, Washington and California will not even
allow the sale of some models of stoves readily available elsewhere, as
much as I am against over-regulation.
