You will have some sort of eye for safety. The usual location is across the bottom of the door about one foot off the floor. It is supposed to be there to prevent the door from closing on things like little kids. Come have a pressure sensitive switch along the bottom of the door. Code requires something.

There are no safety eyes. If there are, they need a white cane.

Some times there will also be a pressure adjustment that sets how much pressure causes the motor to stop moving and reverse course. From the sound of yours it may be the problem.

Yes, there is a pressure adjustment knob on the back of the unit, to set the amount of resistance for safety. Changing its setting makes no difference.
