IÂ’m sorry IÂ’ve frustrated you, Dieter! I actually
understand your point, but I do see more of a coercion
factor than you do. Furthermore, I see both Paul AND
the influencers as being "troublemakers", to use your
term. Thanks for being patient with me.

To Kathryn: I agree with Mark that Gal. 2:6 refers not
to the Jerusalem apostles, but rather the “false
believers” of 2:4 who infiltrated the council meeting
in order to exert their own influence. They could have
been either Christian Jew hardliners (so Philip Esler,
Galatians, p. 131) or non-Christian Jew outsiders
acting as social control agents (so Mark Nanos,
“Intruding Spies & Pseudo-Brethren”). But not Paul’s
own colleagues. Whether Esler or Mark is correct, I
believe the other apostles were on the same page as
Paul -- at least, far more than commonly assumed.
