I don't disagree with you.... from a business stand point. I'm all about businesses making money. I'm not even mad at the oil companies for all their record breaking profits. It's a business... people started it to make money. I'm just saying that how you treat your customers and partners says a lot. In this case I think Dains is treating their customer base very well since they must really want to see the game. They are treating their partner like a turd sandwich to please the customers. I hope they make lots of money tonight. Really, I do. It's not easy to run a small business. I might even be willing to concede the benefit of doubt to the miscommunication angle. I do wonder how long the show has been booked and if this could have been addressed earlier though.

From a band standpoint (which I know you know as well) it would just suck to get all prepped for a show, spend time and money hanging flyers/promoting the show. I wouldn't want to be in that situation and I would avoid it by not booking at a place that has done it in the past. There are other places to play. Also, I would probably not go see a band there (sorry fellow struggling artists) if I knew I could see them later at a different venue unless it were a VERY special occasion.

k.

I personally don't think that this is the major moral outrage that some
folks are claiming it to be. It's more likely a flukey lack of
communication. The band booking people probably didn't know that they
weren't supposed to book a band when the NBA finals are on, and the people
who run the bar probably didn't know that a band was booked during game 6.

I don't give a rats ass about the NBA. But I understand that a bar wanting
to make money is not as much greed as it is, idunno, making a living. It
should be well known by now that places like Dain's do not survive by
putting on rock shows. They want a piece of the rock pie for sure, but ask
anyone who runs a bar and they'll tell you that a marquee sporting event
will always bring more people than a local rock show.

Principles are great when you're not staring down a stack of bills. And I
defy anyone to tell me that they will turn down seeing a great rock show at
Dain's sometimes down the road because of that one time they canceled a show
for a basketball game.

As an afterthought, shit, one band could play first half commercians and
halftime, one band could play second half commercials, and one band could
play postgame. Commercial breaks tend to be song length, and there are
enough of them to play a set no problem.
