Pardon me, but are these your criteria for a good rock
venue, or for a cozy neighborhood bar? Decor?
Seriously?
Also, you want people to dance *and* you want seating.
What, so people can sit down when they wear themselves
out dancing? Where would you suggest the venue add
seating? In the middle of the floor? The Cradle has
added a lot of seating since I started going there,
and they've managed to do so without compromising the
space for show-standers. For shows where most people
will want to sit down, The Management brings in
chairs.
Finally, I thought we'd settled this dancing thing.
It's a charming cultural peculiarity. I will dance
when the music suggests dancing to me, which indie
rock does not often do. I will not jerk my scrawny
frame around arhythmically in a pastiche of what MTV
thinks I should be doing in a large crowd just to
protect myself from being labeled by some complete
stranger who won't be at another show for the next
three months anyway.
Also, the Cradle isn't quite as filthy as you might
assume, especially since the nonsmoking thing. They
clean that place with bleach. Bleach! Admittedly, many
of the patrons often do smell bad. Those
every-three-months show-goers could use some showers
all around. Hey, the Cradle even has a shower! No,
they may not use it.
