To be a successful creative producer, you need
lots of help from other people. Writers need
supportive literary agents and publishers,
artists need gallerists and enthusiastic
collectors, and filmmakers need producers,
publicists, and distributors. In each of these
cases, the creative producers do not have much
leverage to negotiate novel intellectual property
arrangements and are usually just grateful that
someone is promoting their work. Meanwhile, the
agencies, studios, and galleries, have their own
templated intellectual property agreements that
need to be signed, and they bear little
resemblance to Creative Commons licenses. This
system of production is one of the major
obstacles for Creative Commons.
