I just discovered a new mplayer feature. It can play a stream via
a proxy. Here is an example:

mplayer http_proxy://125.244.109.31:8080/http://63.237.51.160:8000/
-------------------------------------------------------------------

Can you explain what a proxy is/does? A server that fetches things for you from other servers?

The reason this is valuable is because some streams are not
accessible to distant foreign listeners (because of time-outs
or geographical restrictions). This can be avoided by using
a proxy in the target country.

I am now listening to an American stream (via an American proxy)
that is unavailable to me directly.

BTW the proxy in the above example (125.244.109.31:8080) is in
Korea. Google for "proxy server list" to find lots of proxy
server addresses.

Cheers,
Steven
