Which, if you are not totally desperate for space, makes gs the preferred application.

gs from SW4.0 appears (including dependencies) to take up less space than htmldoc and all its dependencies, and does not require kernel 2.4 or X.

Thanks for attempting htmldoc. And thanks to all for pointing out that Abiword and Opera can export .ps files. Today was the first time I printed a formatted webpage with linux (as user, some day as root).
