Other than lilo, is everying else working OK?
If that is the only problem, we should be able
to sort out the booting problem.

Cheers,
Steven

Sometimes when I cannot boot to ext2, I can chroot there, which isolates the problem.

Boot from floppy disk. Mount /dev/hda1 /hd. chroot /hd /bin/sh --login.
If you can run linux from hard disk, then the problem is with the boot, not the file system.

P. S. The eMachine ATI Rage IIc video appears at first to work with Xvesa, but if you try to switch back to a text terminal without exiting Xvesa things go haywire and you have to power off.

The onboard video on two Compaqs and one Dell works better (ATI Rage Pro, some Trident....). This is despite syschk finding only 1.5MB RAM in the DELL (it still does 1024 in 24-bit color). Whatvga2 has a runtime error (computer too fast or video too fast?).
