It might be the way in which you load the various midi drivers. To
test this, try not loading drv_midi and opl3. Does the number change?

drvmidi is an AWE midi player, you probably meant v_midi (what does this do?) but it is awe_wave which loads awe capability.

David, did you also specify a -DN?

No, playmidi -e just worked. However, my card has no AWE support, and
I didn't load opl3.

I think I loaded sb then awe then opl3 - does the last one in get the lowest number?

Thanks very much for proving that playmidi actually played to keyboard.
