How many HD are on the 486?
How many partitions are on that HD?
Which partitions can BL3 use?

When you move that HD to another machine,
will it be alone? Or will the primary HD
still be connected?

Which floppy boot do you mean?
The floppy boot after install-to-hd?

That indicates a problem with your storage medium.
Disk error?

Yes, you can install BL3 to a HD partition using another
computer and then transfer the HD to the 486. I will be
happy to tell you exactly how to do this. But I need
more information about your HD.
