First of all... thank you for all reply about my
problem.

Aparently i wasnt clear enough about my scanner. It is
a SCSI Scanner, not USB.

I just checked that to use a USB one with SANE you
need to use a higher version kernel than the one used
by BL3, so i would like to know if anyone knew there
is such kind of limitation with SCSI scanners too.

I am using two SCSI scanners with kernel 2.2.16 (not the one Steven compiled, but I have posted my own 2.2.16 kernel with scsi support).
Kernel 2.2.26 should work fine - check at the BL3.40 website to see what the standard kernel supports (see the kernel config) and if it does not support scsi or something else that you want, use bzimage.big from a linked page with that kernel and a lot more modules that can be used with it.

The Slackware 8.1 SANE requires the Slackware 8.1 glibc (2.2.5), and the X parts of it may not work with BL3. Use the CLI scanimage

scanimage --mode L --resolution 300dpi > filename.pbm

For my HP:
G for grey
C for color
dpi default 300dpi, 12 to 1600 possible

scanimage --help for more info
scanimage -L list scanners

You can use the scanner directly as a copier by piping the output to pbmtolj or pbmtoescp2 (both are part of netpbm which I have also posted).
ppmtolj (pnmtolj?) will print color to a deskjet printer. To print images with ghostscript/lpd you would need a 'user' account because root cannot print in BL, I don't know why.

insmod parport
insmod parport_pc
scanimage --mode L --resolution 300 | pbmtolj -res 300 > /dev/lp0

You can make the above into a script called 'copy'.
If you want several copies add the option for multiple copies after pbmtolj (I think -N 3 gives three copies).

Before using the scanner insmod scsi_mod and I think sg_mod, with the scanner plugged in and turned on, and also the module for your scanner card (aic7xxx is mine). If you forget to plug in/turn on, rmmod the scsi card module, plug/turn on, insmod it again and it should report finding the scanner.

Since you ppl told me i can upgrade the kernel, its
ok. I got a solution.

Now, how can i install BL3 in a HD at another machine,
and than just install this HD into my 486 to boot it
up? I have tryed the floppy boot, but it printed on
screen an L, than several numbers like:

L 40 60 40 40 40 20 ...

This may mean that you don't have enough RAM to run the floppy version on the other computer. It needs 12MB and I think you have 10MB.
Does it have space for more 30-pin or 72-pin SIMMs? We saved some 4MB 30-pin SIMMs.

Download the other BL3.40 (non-floppy) and install that one to hard drive.

It seems to be a common problem, but it really anoys
me to work with floppy.

Any light on this one?

Same here. Sindi has some experience with SCSI on
BL; does anyone else?

I have used SCSI scanners, zip drive, CD-burners (external, and external converted to internal but you need to learn how to set the ID with jumpers), and internal and external hard drives. Terminate the last device in the chain, but scanners seem to come with switches that you can use instead of separate terminators. I presume you have the correct cable to run from scanner to scsi card. We had to run ours via a zip drive as intermediate.

I am running BL2 and BL3 from a scsi drive, booted from DOS on an IDE drive. We could not get DOS to boot from a scsi drive.
