For some reason, the Opera website allowed me to choose a
generic 'static' .deb and then I was offered a check box which
said to pack the deb into a tgz, or something like that. I checked
it and got a semi-static tgz package, just like yours.

It's sitting in /mnt/opera... I don't have enough space to install it
here, and it runs just fine from its present location, anyway.

I may have imagined that this was necessary.

ldd is just a script and the bl3 ldd seems to work with glibc.

I installed some glibc2 x11 libraries to /lib and ran X without a window
manager. It is interesting that it works with a libc5 library.

That 'static zgv' requires uclibc and svgalib.
