  • Subject: [BL] WP51/DOS problems under dosemu and xdosemu

I have MGA/TTL and VGA on this computer (matrox VGA) and an 84-key keyboard.

I have BL2 set up with Xvesa and an rxvt. I ran xdosemu at 640 resolution because it fills the screen better. If I run it at 1024 and then maximize the dosemu box, the text looks rather bad. It might help to install the proper dosemu vga fonts. Dosemu won't work right with BL3, says David.

My rxvt is apparently not the right width for 80 column monospaced WP.

The left and right arrows on the number pad don't work correctly. They move the text in the rxvt (it shifts left and right). So I cannot edit what I have typed.

I set display to use underline font, which works except it is also bold. mdacon won't do underline properly so I can't use dosemu and TTL monitor.

I set subscript to be blue and in the setup screen it displayed cyan, but it is green back in the regular screen.

I hit the Enter key and it put me into the C: directory, as did the F7 key. I doubt that a newer keyboard would fix this but I may try it.

Anyone else want to give this a try under xdosemu?

Under plain DOSemu I would need to remove the virtual terminals in order to use Alt-F1 through Alt-F4, or change them to 11-14 and use chvt 11 etc.
Then use 'screen' instead of virtual terminals.

I don't recall having the above problems under plain dosemu (but the earlier versions lacked A and S so I gave up on them).

Dosemu works much better for our CAD program, which is 99% graphical, and the text part of it even works now. Xdosemu used to lack i and , in BL2, and the older libc5 version would not even load xdosemu.

WP51/DOS under plain dosemu on the VGA screen is a disaster.

It keeps leaving out letters at random. I typed going three times:
goig going oig

Maybe my dual-head system is confusing it? Or this keyboard?

The quick brown fox turned into Thequick bro fox
Hello there became Helo ee

The Enter key at least works. And F7.

My partner's text editor has no such problems - all the letters appear immediately when typed.

WP works under pure DOS on this dual-monitor system.

It has typing problems on the TTL monitor under dosemu too.

My partner is delighted to be able to use his text editor, which means he does not have to learn to rewrite it to compile for linux.

So I installed WP42/DOS and this works very nicely under dosemu in VGA mode. I can't get it to load under xdosemu. What am I doing wrong?
