Com3 (ttyS2) set up in /inittab on this computer that I am typing on.

I could not get the dumb terminal business to work.
Kermit is setting line now (sometimes slowly on both computers).
I could not figure out what to do after I set line and connect.
I think C-Kermit does not provide dumb terminal features, will try DOS MSKermit next.

I tried connecting via ethernet but have no idea what I am doing.
Set up ethernet anyway (insmod and ifconfig).

Tried in.telnetd again and it works. I don't recall if it worked before insmod rtl8139 and ifconfig but it does now. Might I be telnetted over the ethernet connection not the serial cable?

I switched to vt2 on the computer running the telnet server and dialed.
I went back to the computer telnetted to that computer, on which I have logged in as user. I cannot use links graphical because svgalib is not set up for use by 'user' and root still does not have permission to login despite adding ttyS2 to securetty. How am I supposed to set up the other file that might give root login permission (login.conf?).

I can use links-0.93 and lynx. So I tried lynx and discovered that at the
BL site the Linux HOWTO gives me a 404 not found, with a note that the HOWTOs have been merged. Link needs fixing.

I can also telnet to my shell account where I am writing this mail.
Have not yet tried file transfer, which might work if I used kermit to telnet instead of plain telnet, which I will try next.

Did you say send/receive would work over a telnet connection?

I hope this works again. Flaky setup or I don't know what I am doing.
