I attempted to
upgradepkg glibc.tgz%glibc-2.2.5-i386-2.tgz
(the .tgz may not be needed)
and it started to copy files to /lib/incoming and after a while told me
no space left on device (My hard drive is full of things left over
from compiling lynx statically including ncurses and openssl and zlib)

So I deleted all the files from /lib/incoming (about 8M)
and the glibc.tgz on my hard drive and tried again but it still ran out
of space. I found glibc-2.2.5.so type files in /lib/incoming, along with
the same file names for 2.1.3 but all 0 length (deleted ones which matched
what was already in /lib).

I gave up on this, left 2.1.3 there (it had not been removed because there
was not space to copy 2.2.5 from incoming to /lib, at which point there
would have been three three copies of glibc, I think), and upgraded just
glibcso to 2.2.5. Opera works again. as and ar don't work, but they were
not working before with the glibcso upgrade.

Does glibc include all the files in glibcso? (I. e., if I upgrade glibc
do I also need glibcso?)

I will probably put 2.1.3 on one computer for compiling, and 2.2.5so with
X and Opera on another, and never mix them again.
Nobody seems to know if I can just upgrade glibc and leave binutils, egcs,
linuxinc and make not upgraded. I might try that some day on a much
larger hard drive.
