I got the bas-hd.zip file and ran pkunzip and it tried to overwrite the
existing readme.txt about baslinux for RAM drive, so I told it not to
overwrite, renamed the readme.txt to readmehd.txt and then unzipped it
again to get the readme.txt.

I installed this file as directed and then downloaded the five files for
compiling because we do not seem to have the cable needed for the external
CD-ROM drive and I am too sleepy to figure out how to split the 2.5M
egcs.tgz to get it to a floppy disk after using the CD-ROM drive
onanothercomputer, or to do a file transfer via cable.

Since my ISP was running at 0-500 bytes/sec recently (and were
deaad for a while before that) I used my partners' school account, which
averaged under 1Kbutes/sec, was frequently 0, and finally timed out.
I then telnetted to my bbs and got the files that way, but would have had
to ftp them to my computer and it timed out.

Is there some easy way to switch between two eznet.cfg files? What I did
was create two with different names and I can rename either of then
eznet.cfg before doing ppp-on. That way I get to try out both connections
and choose the faster of the two if one is not dead. If I had kermit I
wouldn ot need to do this but I had to get kermit. I should have gotten
it in the first place via DOS kermit and my bbs and skipped the ppp-on
stuff.

SoI used DOS kermit to download from the bbs on a 14.4K connection.

I installed them all and noticed that one of them created a bunch of files
with i586 in their names. Will the compiled files work on a 486?
There were other files with i486 in them. I lost my notes - lack of
sleep. It may have been in egcs or glibc. I am in DOS so cannot easily
check since ltooldos is not installed on the laptop computer (the 486).

Have other users used BL1 to compile for BL1 on a 486?

So it only took about 4 hours to download and install BL1 and the
compilers. Even glibc6 2.2.5 did not take this long! Not counting the
couple of days to find bas-hd.tgz.

Kermit 8 is not available precompiled for BL1, just BL2.
