I have obviously not been paying enough attention in the early part of
this subject. I have the Xvesa from DeliLinux and I have not been able
to make it work properly. I can get a speckled screen with an X cursor,
but no window manager, so there is one (vital !) step I have not
remembered.

Just press the P key. The text prints. If you want the complete
graphic page to print, then save it as a bitmap (Ctrl+P) then use
PRINTGF to print it.
