Problems with flwriter

Even with a window manager I have been getting a lot of segmentation fault
crashes. I got three in a row one time by typing Alt-F tab, others by
typing Alt-T tab, or Alt-T Esc, or various other key sequences I don't
exactly recall. This is not predictable.

I just got two such crashes in a row by starting X, starting flwriter,
typing Alt-F, then ESC to make the menu go away so that I could type
Ctrl-N for a new file.

There is really annoying lag when I type any text or when I access the
menu from the keyboard (Alt-F etc). I discovered that the lag goes away
as soon as you click with the mouse on any of the four menu items (File,
etc.). It does not help to click on the toolbar buttons.

The lag is such that I can type five words before any of them appear. And
a menu takes maybe 2-3 seconds to appear.

I have not noticed any segmentation faults occurring after I have clicked
with the mouse to eliminate the lag problem. But I have not tested this
for very long. People who use the mouse for everything (including opening
a new file) might not notice any crashing and lag, so could someone else
test out flwriter with keyboard navigation only? Try typing without
first opening a new file, or start flwriter then type Alt-F ESC.

You can access most features without the mouse. You can choose the font
style but not the size. You cannot align right, left, or center, or
underline, bold or italic. This is in my opinion a serious drawback of a
wordprocessor - why force people to take their hands off the keyboard
while they are in the middle of typing text? I often need to center
lines, or bold a few words. Other wordprocessors let you type Ctl-B for
bold, Ctrl-C for center.

I needed /a3/cxxlibs.tgz (I did not install the man packages).

I tried to extract Ted (2.1.4) and was told it is not in gzip format. I
tried to download it again and the download ran at under 1K per minute
and keeps stalling. Will keep trying (I think my ISP may be having
problems). Can someone please tell me if you can center text in Ted
without a mouse?
