I changed the virtual screen to 640. The default seems to have been 800 -
no way I would have set it to 800 for this monitor. I see at page bottom
a bar and at the right of that bar a small square. And a (now movable)
mouse arrow. A right click on the bar (usually) gets me a list of things
I can do with my windows. I don't have any windows. There was, I think,
something moving in the little square, briefly. Clicking on the square
does nothing.

Twm puts a bar at the top. This is icem. I don't have twm on the
computer, that I know of. It is not in .xinitrc, icewm is.

I can put ratpoison in .xinitrc instead and that is usable. Icewm does
not come with the same introductory message as ratpoison about where to
find help.

I presume I could also just put xterm in .xinitrc and then have my choice
of window managers by typing icewm or ratpoison in the xterm at the prompt
(that worked in other Linuxes).

It appears to be executing but no penguin. I may plug in a color monitor
in case that makes a difference. (But with the number of objects on the
dresser where I have this computer, the larger monitor would need to go on
the floor and the computer is 5' up, which would make it hard to see). Is
the penguin supposed to be inside the bar at the bottom, or freestanding?
I am willing to continue trying to get icewm working but the keyboard is
more important to me right now.

Well, maybe in the FAQ? You put that line in there, and it can be
dangerous to untrained users ;)

I was planning to download flwriter and see if it works in mono without
arrow keys, but my DNS numbers appear to be broken at the moment.
Do flwriter or Ted require a mouse?
