The dagesh, in my humble opinion, is not (and never was) a phonetic sign, and predates the NAKDANIYM (or NAKDANIYOT).

Presumably, if we follow some ideas about Jewish conspiracies of the Middle Ages,
they deliberately falsified their own texts at that time so that Christians could emend their owns...
I can provide references for that kind of (crazy) ideas.

Do you think the dagesh is a phonetic sign or a conspiracy?
In the latter case, against whom?
