Jason:

Do you really find Jer 23:6 and 33:6 "nearly identical"?

In context, 23 refers to the branch of David as a King who will do what is
right in the land, gather the scattered flocks of Israel and Judah, etc. In
33 there is reference to restoring the land but no similar reference to a
King of the line of David. Chapter 23 contains the phrase ze shemo asher
yqro ("this is the name he shall be called..." . No similar phrase is found
in chapter 33, right?

Cheers,
Ted Brownstein

Personally, I do not take this as a reference to a name of Messiah.
Jer 33:6 is nearly identical to 23:6. There the word LW (לו) is
replaced with LH (לה). If the one is a reference to Messiah, why not
the other?
Rather, Jer 23:6 is masculine, referring to Israel -- in the same way
that in 33:6 it is feminine, referring to Jerusalem. The two verses
are saying the same thing, and neither is talking about Messiah's
name.
