I think very few people know how to grow. How about starting a garden club or
a growing club? Meet at the library once a week and mentor those interested?
Or community gardens? Can you find a spot that can be donated-and maybe even
get a church involved??
Even finding a central location for the market and putting up signs waay
ahead of time to get people used to it?You can also let the library know, and
the churches and senior centers.
Personally, I buy by quality and feel. I'm on a fixed income, but I'll support
worthy people and causes. So,you have a guy who sells wholesale? So what??
His cheaper prices might draw in others interested. Then those customers can
get a feel for who you are-and you have the opportunity to make new
customers. If they're always going to buy cheap anyway you still wouldn't
have a customer. Especially if you're getting started or are small, you need
as much foot traffic as possible. Maybe even a weekly ad in the local papers
discussing what will be available at the farmers market this week. You might
even throw in a recipes using those ingredients.
We have a market here that's open saturday mornings and wednesday afternoons.
Gives people plenty of chances to shop when its convenient for them. I always
wished that a farmers market would have a concierge. By that I mean a table
set up where people can ask questions about how to pick items and maybe even
where you can give them a list and they'd pick it all up for you. This table
would have all kinds of flyers and recipes and farmers profiles. Maybe even
some cute giveaways. Why not??How about a farmers market shopping service???
