What little literature I've seen suggests that walnuts will come true from
seed, regardless of the parent's rootstock.  Does anyone know for sure if
this is the case?  Also, is there any reason why regular old walnuts at the
grocery store wouldn't germinate?  I would assume those would be superior
cultivars.

Thanks in advance,
Tripp

A new book, Hope Beneath Our Feet: Restoring Our Place in the Natural
World, edited by Martin Keogh, is now available at amazon.com. The anthology,
designed to answer the question "In a time of environmental crisis, how can
we live right now?" includes essays on permaculture by Bill Mollison and my
PC teacher Larry Santoyo. I also have an essay in the book, "Coping with
the New Realities," about the psychology of coping with escalating
eco-challenges.

The anthology also includes essays by Paul Hawken, Bill McKibben, Michael
Pollan, Barbara Kingsolver, Alice Walker, Vicki Robin, Frances Moore Lappe,
Byron Katie, Bioneers' Nina Simons, historian Howard Zinn, Wendell Berry
and many more -- 56 in all. Good company for permaculture :-)
