I know that zomeworks used army surplus ammo cans for water storage. They

Zomeworks is one of the best passive solar companies around and has been for
over 30 years.

If you use your barrels or ammo cans to raise your beds then you get heat
where you most need it, the root zone of plants.

Another source for new and used containers, steel and plastic, are water treatment companies that deal with boilers, well and municipal water and swimming pools and the ones that resell treatment chemicals wholesale. Their used containers may or may not contain some small amount of mildly problematic residues that may easily be disposed of or neutralized on site or taken to a county houshold waste recycling facility. These are extremely sturdy and durable containers probably very UV resistant. They also have steel barrels, 20 and 50 gallon, new, possibly used. The plastic ones range in size from 5 to 20 to 50 gallon in size, cloudy white to light blue to black (these are really sturdy). The swimming pool maintenance companies have 6 gallon buckets with screw on lids for
storage of granulated chlorine and DE pearls for filtration.
