I would NOT say it's a GOOD thing, but I WOULD say that it's EXACTLY what we
should expect from big business and big government, especially from this
administration, which does EVERYTHING that way.

Just wondering - are mass media reports about Mad Cow disease, Avian Flu, or
global warming any different from reports about weapons of mass destruction
in Iraq? How can the average person discern what threats to society at large
are real enough to warrant imposition of controls on individuals, businesses,
or segments of society? Since our government and corporations ultimately
answer to the public (either at the polling place or at the cash register),
it seems to me that communication is the big problem. Nobody I know has the
time and energy to ferret out the "truth" about every issue or threat that's
reported.

What I believe seems very clear, but I can certainly understand why others
feel differently, given the "information" they receive and the way they
receive it. For example, I tend to be skeptical if the writer seems to be
directly and adversely affected, and particularly if they seem paranoid or
hysterical. That is NOT the case with Forest Garden, who appears to be well
informed and calm in the face of adversity.

Disclaimer - Ah'm a Texan too.

Hello Everyone,

I am from Texas. I farm and have livestock. This aniaml ID issue is real -
I've been to the official public comment meetings. Registering the premises
where animals are kept is scheduled to be mandatory by July of this year.
Tagging will be implemnnted as soon as as possible thereafter.

The program amounts to the small farmer being burdened with oneous paperwork
and fees. Farming is hard enough work to have to deal with this kind of
extra load.

This amounts to the government deciding to license and make it now a
'priveledge' to own livestock - which used to be an inherent right. The
cost of some of the fee's are more than the chicken itself.

As someone in the real world, on the ground, dealing with this issue as a
part of my livelihood - from here it looks like an insidous plot by large
organizations to control what little remains of the food supply that is not
coming from a corporate factory farm. It's really freaky the extent they
are going to.

Buckle up.
