One of the synonyms of that species listed was C. orientalis. I have a seedling tree of that, but I've yet to see fruit. The best hawthorne for fresh eating I've seen is C. mollis, and Richard Fahey, the NAFEX Apple Interest Group chairman has an exceptional selection of that species he calls "Heart's Delight". There are a lot of highly interesting hawthorns, from the southern Mayhaw (C. opaca and C. aestivalis) to some of the Chinese giant hawthorns. Hidden Springs Nursery has a selection of some of those. Of course the Mayhaw king was the late Sherwood Akin.
>From the hawthorns I've tried, I think the genus has as much promise as apples and pears.

I've run across some descriptions of Crataegus schraderiana - from Europe, I believe, that sound like it would be worth trying to grow. Anyone have first-hand experience with this species and its fruit? Anyone know of a source for it?
Thanks,
