Mine were and are in a large space.  They stripped quite a few varieties of trees.  Now all the trees wear chicken wire corsets.  My geese keep the grass mowed but they don't do much on broadleaved weeds.  They do lay eggs and hatch some out.  we take those to the poultry butcher in the fall.  Brined, smoked and roasted they are much tastier than your average Snapper, Lawnboy or Honda.

I have some marauding chickens working on the bugs.  I have no clue where those eggs are.  I hope I do not find them.

IMHO, I'd go with duck; geese are vegetarians.
Also I know of someone who had young geese strip the bark off of a young apple tree.   They were in a small space and were probably looking for food, or maybe bored.
Fred had a flock of geese that roamed his orchard. They ate the windfalls.  Nice geese for Thanksgiving dinner - really juicy and sweet.

I can guarantee you that the local cats WILL target bobwhites.  So will fox and any other predator available in the area.   Can't you just get a pet duck?

Subject: [NAFEX] guinea fowl noise reports?

Our imperial suburban town told me this afternoon fowl or rabbits have
to have permit, which I am contemplating complying with. They even send
an inspector.

Another idea other than guinea fowl is to release Bobwhite quail.
They'd be less noisy than guineas; but I haven't much confirmation
they'd eat ticks, which is the main point of keeping fowl. There's
reports of guineas being susceptible to roaming house cats, but I only
see one house cat occasionally, and occasional losses would be
sustainable. Apparantly releasing the Bobwhite would be the least
labor-intensive poultry activity, but whether they'd stay in the area
depends on terrain factors I don't understand. And I don't have
confirmation they'd eat ticks.

Would appreciate hearing from those of you who have had poultry.
