All the Bosc I've ever had were firm, but free of grit. Do you mean you found a buttery fleshed Bosc type? Buttery, as in the way a ripe Bartlett, or Comice are?

I don't think its hard to find non-gritty pears, is it? I believe it gets hard when we try to grow the highest-tasting pears then pollination often comes hard.
