A second on figs, & if you're gonna keep it indoors most of the year I would go for something a little more exotic than the brown turkey, hardy chicago genre of figs, maybe try a jelly fig, a conadria or a LSU Gold (which I don't have in my own collection but sounds quite interesting.)

Also another fruit that hasn't been mentioned which makes a really easy to maintain, compact house plant is the surinam cherry (eugenia uniflora) which produces quite edible ribbed fruits very high in vitamin C. I grew mine from seed & they fruited within 3 years. Here's a few pics of them in action.
