Princess persimmon - Diospyros rhombifolia, maybe?
It's a favorite of the bonsaists, but they're not necessarily going for fruit production.
However, I'm presuming it is dioeicious, and you'd have to have both a male and female to get fruit production.

I've got a couple from a friend who does bonsai in addition to fruiting plants, but they're clones of one another, so I probably won't get fruit without getting my mitts on another one - and I don't know if I've got a male or female.
I've also seen varying opinions about their winter-hardiness outdoors - some say zone 6, some say zone 9 - that's a HUGE disparity. Mine are indoors for the winter.
