A good rule of thumb is that too much of any kind of dust is bad for you. Agreed. I doubt that egg shell dust is any worse than any other dust. While I don't have human experience, I do look at LOTS of animal lungs - I can usually tell when dogs have lived in either a very dusty environment(chained out in the backyard in a 'moonscape') or in a smoking household - macrophages(a type of mononuclear white blood cell) clustered around larger airways will contain carbonaceous or siliceous particles within their cytoplasm.
As an aside, we have a family friend, an MD internist who is not convinced that the 'black lung' disease of coal miners is totally or conclusively due to inhalation of coal dust - a high percentage of coal miners, at least here in KY, were/are heavy cigarette smokers. However, it's not politically or socially correct to suggest that those folks' 'occupational' disease might actually be due primarily to their heavy smoking - even though smokers are largely treated like pariahs in todays political environment.
