I bought a Jang Seeder last spring and
promptly sold my Earthway – the savings in seed and thinning labour will
pay off the higher cost pretty quickly. However, I’d be interested in
hearing from others about their experience planting peas and beans with the
Jang. I used the C12 and N6 roller for peas, but found that peas would lodge in
both these rollers and result in skips – bridging in the hopper was
another issue. Beans created the same challenges using the N6 roller, though
not as severe as the peas. For the first pea planting this spring, I used an
old Planet Junior #4 that I bought this past winter (along with a PJ wheel hoe)
from someone who figured they’d only be good as decorations! It dropped a
bit more seed than ideal (though probably not bad for a first planting in cold
soil), but at least there weren’t the misses and the frustration that the
Jang caused last spring. Anybody with similar experiences or advice to offer on
the Jang? Thanks, Rob Songberry Organic Farm 24 Sixth Line, email: rob AT songberry.ca web: www.songberry.ca facebook: become a fan of "Songberry

Because I was trying to be economical and only purchased the four smaller plates/cogs. When I have time, I think I will get four more. On my early seeding, I find I have to double up on the seed drop
because of low germination in cold soils. Anybody else share this
problem. I direct seed spinach, peas, radish, carrot, beet, etc, in the
first or second week of April. I have to set my Jang for a one inch drop
rather than the preferred three inch. This is for a mid-May CSA distribution on John and Katy Ehrlich Alderlea Farm 250 715-0799
