I'm currently working on a vegetable garden that is up near the house
and road. For esthetics, I'd like to space the veggie plants in this
garden more closely and 'fill in' between some. (prior postings
regarding sunflowers detrimental effects led to some questions)
Specifically, here's what I'm wondering...
Tomatoes- what can be planted beneath/around tomatoes that would not
harm their production and might be beneficial or just plain attractive?
Peppers- ignoring the cross-pollination aspect, is it okay to plant them
very closely? Or any suggestions for plantings in between them?
Okra- do any of you grow something under your okra?

The 'companion plants' don't necessarily need to serve a utilitarian
purpose (like repelling pests). They could be other veggies or flowers
or ... ? I just don't want to make the mistake of planting something
that would be detrimental to the veggies.

Thanks for any suggestions,
MeLani
