Errol - Thanks. Unfortunately, the gypsy sawmills have disappared from around here and locust or osage poles or posts have become difficult to find in this area. Hence, the need to compromise.

Allan, if you're all for locust you probably already know about bois d'arc
(aka bodock, Osage orange, hedge orange, horse apple), too, if it's in your
area. (I don't remember where you're from.)

For those who may not be familiar with it, posts from bois d'arc are reputed
to outlast the posthole. It's heavy to tote, hard to cut and very hard to
nail -- but you only have to do it once unless you're from Methuselah's
bloodline.
