Jay Gee, if you were a farmer, you simply would not say the above. It is
hard to explain to those who do not do it, but because we want to do it and
enjoy doing it and can even afford to do it ... we will do it.

Rick W.,

I don't have to be a farmer to understand what you are saying.

I have lived in Southern California much of my life.

Throughout that time I have been acquainted with people
in show business and people aspiring to be in show biz.
For whatever reasons, these showbiz wannabees often
have little or minimal talent, yet they keep banging their
heads against the wall trying to get through it. Most will
never get a paying part. If you ask them what their occupation
is they will tell you they are an actor, whether they drive a
limo or wait table or work in a retail store, etc. They spend
large sums on acting schools. They have heard the rare
success story and no one tells them the real numbers and
statistical chances of making a living as a working actor.

I understand that amateurs often believe they will one day
hit it big based on nothing more than Hope. This statement
applies to actors and people in all walks of life and a variety
of professions.

Everyone makes their own decision about what they want to
do. Some people achieve their dreams and others do not.
One of the characterizations I would make based on my
experiences is that those who do realize their dreams often
find ways to make them happen by adapting to the environments
they find versus trying to make the environment adapt to them.

Finding new markets or getting out of farming are adaptations
to reality. Trying to sell to uninterested people or ignoring a
lack of a market is forcing the environment to adapt to you.

not a farmer - but interested in farming
