Phil we haven't written the rules yet to cover this - our previous
regulations read:

"Imported produce:
Fruit, produce, and products not grown by the vendor are allowed as long as
the supplier's receipts and (organic) certification documentation are
provided to the market manager prior to selling.

To encourage locally grown products, imported products may not be sold two
weeks before or after the season where the same products are grown locally.
Imported produce items must be clearly labeled as such."

To my knowledge we really didn't have any of this imported produce being
sold. We have one grower who is buying shiitake mushrooms from a long-time
vendor who is no longer selling due to the death of his wife. No one had a
problem with that.

I can see both sides of the issue in terms of offering variety and we have
had people come who are just looking for fruit (usually slightly "out of
season" type like cantaloupe in May) but they aren't regular customers. Our
regulars understand that organic fruit is not as easy to grow and maintain
appearance for sale.

If anyone has a good set of rules for a grower-only market (Nan?) we'd love
to see how you've handled the issue. I'm glad to see your market went that
direction, Nan - I think Willie might have driven over there and yelled at
all of them.
