Fast food is an interesting industry in general. The other day I was
thinking that this all goes back to jello salad. Salad in a little box.
Add a can of pineapple and some cottage cheese and you have a complete
salad.

I'm thinking of becoming a Pampered Chef consultant so I can support both my
organic food habit and my organic food soapbox! (Just kidding but not
entirely.)

I do have a question. Part of the trouble, I think, is that people no
longer value *food* much for its own sake. We like things to be either fast
or fancy, preferably both. My Pampered Chef joke is because I went to a
party where the lady demonstrating all these cooking gadgets was careful to
point out that she was actually a terrible cook and that everything she did
came from boxes; the gadgets just helped her make it look like Martha.
Unfortunately it tasted like a box.

SO...the question is...how do we try to encourage a cultural shift back to
valuing food for all the many reasons it should be precious? I realize this
idea may sound pie-in-the-sky and stupidly optimistic... I did write a
letter to the lady encouraging her to try some cooking from scratch!

And Fast Food Nation is fascinating, also very easy to read. Do find a
little time, maybe while you're waiting for something to finish cooking. ;)
