Guess I missed this one.  I do try to live on the land and am working towards the goal of growing as much of my food as I can.  I am retired but not on food stamps.  I do understand the stress of the working person.  It is very hard to make good choices when you are so tired and stressed from slaving for the JOB.  No quarrel there. 
I love hearing stories of people who are doing it.  Living on their land.  Recently I saw a documentary about a family that lived on 5 acres, an apple orchard and they had paid off their land and were making a living from their land.  Anna

I didn't intend to sound defensive, and in fact, I don't feel that
way. I was only commenting that I could sympathize with people whose
lives are so stressed that it's difficult for them to make the best decisions.

The majority of posts in this group are indeed about living on the
land. I think you just happened to join at a point when we got down a
particular rabbit trail about food prices.
