I don't have a greenhouse or any indoor space to grow seedlings, so I grew tomatoes from seed using wintersowing this year and had a bunch to give away. All I used was some free recycled plastic containers, homemade compost, and a couple square feet in my garden path, and I got free seeds, too. I didn't need a greenhouse, fluorescent lights, heating pads, etc. And one of the easiest to germinate was Costuloto Genovese, which I haven't grown before and am eager to taste.

Actually this is so easy, no sacrifice at all, but a great help to some who haven't got the hang of germinating food plants or don't have the place to do it. Have you checked the prices of starters in the big box stores lately?

You're right about what this list is for. It's what we try to
encourage. But more than self sufficiency, we're about community
self sufficiency, networking, swapping, sharing skills and knowhow
where we live. Not a bunker mentality, withdrawing in paranoia. One
thing is we give away starter veggie plants to four other families.
Short season here in NCent NM. As things get crazier out there local
networking can be a lifesaver.
Giving away starter plants is a great idea and a great thing for you
to do. I've been looking for ways to network that don't involve just
talking about the problems, and I like the idea of providing specific
help like this.
