Excellent, Anna. I've never seen such a place.

Near where my daughter lives in Baltimore, some people set aside an unused city block for community gardens. The rats ate everything that was planted, and my daughter says the people who had attempted to have gardens there were so disappointed that most of them have said they wouldn't do it again. But the owners of the land, or whoever is leasing it from them, are going to try again with fencing and underground barriers that will hopefully keep the rats out. There are huge obstacles to community gardens in many places, but I'm encouraged by the efforts that are being made. My daughter is still concerned about the effect of exhaust gases and other urban air pollution on anything that's grown there, but I'm hoping that the cost of gas may finally drive down the volume of traffic. There are already statistics that suggest a much greater use of mass transit in the places where it's available.
