Well,
I'd like to thank everyone for their input on this issue.
After my visit to Wolf Camera, I had pretty much decided I liked the feeling of the Nikon D70 more than the Canon Digital Rebel. I ended up going to Southeastern Camera in Cary today and buying the Nikon, a 1GB CF card, a neutral lense filter for protection, and a carrying bag.
It was the same cost as at Wolf Camera, so it was a better choice in my mind to buy it from a local place rather than a chain like Wolf.
They seemed like very nice guys and I was glad to give them their business. We talked for almost an hour and they didn't rush me or pressure, and they gave me their opinions. It was a lot of money but I do not think I will regret my choice.
Again, thanks to everyone for their input.
Lyman Green

I was only 1/2 serious. But the 1/2 that was serious stood at attention
with the "more experience than others" comment was made. Sorry - I
couldn't help myself, I had to pull rank:)

As the only other individual on here with as much or more experience
photography as David, I'm going to weigh in here and tell you the truemore
facts.
At a given price point both system are about equal. At any given time
one
system will exceed the other slightly, but the balance will tip next
time
the other company releases their camera. And, either system is far
capable than you will be as the user. (I wish I could find the link, for
but a
group of professional photographers used disposable point and shoots
anthe
art project, and their work was amazing).
In general in digital Canon is recognized as being the leader and on
cutting edge. And Nikon is recognized as being a bit behind in termsof
pixels, resolution and sharpness, but more reliable as far as theirthe
software
goes.
So I recommend you find models from both companies that have the
features
you want and then see which one feels the best to you, fits your hand
best,
and that you like more. And buy that one. Afterall, it's just like
silly mac versus pc debate. The only correct answer to either is thelike
one
that makes you happy.
