Anyone on the list have a Canon Digital Rebel or a Nikon D70? Looking
for info on these digital SLR's from a real person (as opposed to a
faceless internet reviewer).

I'm way behind on my internetworkers notes but dpreview.com has great forums for discussion.

I'm partial to the Canon side, but I've had their regular SLRs, and now digital ones for years. I've had the Canon D60 (got it in Sprint '02) and then upgraded to the 20D for Christmas.

The thing that kept me away from the Digital Rebel was the lack of a PC SYnc terminal. I want to/am playing with external studio style flashes and to do that with the rebel you'd have to by a hotshoe adapter (another $15 or so) to do it and eh, why not have it built in.

Really I'd say find the lenses you want and work backwards. The bodies are overall going to be similar.
