Paul, I know where you are coming from on this, and I agree to a great
extent. And I am in NO way supporting Bush's re-election.
However, I do think it isn't such a simple issue. While we understand our
democratic system and can comprehend that a loss in the election isn't the
equivalent of a military defeat of our country, many people and countries do
not see things the same way. They interpret an election loss as they would
interpret their dictator being overthrown - as a defeat of the nation. When
King Bush the First was defeated by Clinton, Saddam said as much and his
supported partied in the streets.
I wish I could find some links to stories during that time, but any search
that includes the relevant names returns nothing but present day material.
