Mark:
thanks for the VoIP info.
...I'm curious, were one to give up their phone line, would the Phone Book listing disappear too?
I don't know how important that is for this second, business line, but I'm curious.

Hi Ed,

I was a subscriber to Packet 8's service for a while. It was great! I signed up for $20/month and a small setup fee, and got unlimited calling in return. I only canceled it when I realized I could do it even cheaper myself: with Linux, the Asterisk PBX software, and IConnectHere.com. Then again, I never planned to give up my phone line.

There are plenty of VoIP providers who'd love to hook you up. The beauty of VoIP is that you can truly get competition for your dialtone: everything's based on packets. Give Packet8, Vonage, TWC, or FeatureTel a call.

Search my blog for "VoIP" or "Packet8" if you want to learn more.

Cheers,
