I don't have any issues about singing and referencing the government,
it's agencies, or even it's leaders. HOWEVER, I personally draw the
line when the songs start to remind me of a personality cult.

The lyrics to the 'Bush' song below is one of thanks to all the people
of the country, including the government and the president, for however
ineffective they were in what was done, attempts were made and for that
people were thankful. People are still living in government campers, so
I do hope that they still have hope about rebuilding. The economy could
use it too.
The 'Obama' song is not about the country, it is about Barack Obama, the
man. The song practically deifies him, and the first song incorrectly
attributes things to Obama that he is not responsible for, equal work
for equal pay, for example. The second song talks about his
accomplishments <sic> and again, it is about the man, personally.

I think there is a big difference between the tone and meaning of the
two, three songs. I also think the audience is important. The 'Bush'
song was performed in public at the White House for all to see. It was
a thank you given to America. The Obama videos were never intended for
a wide audience, and the importance of the song was more about the
subject of the song than the act of singing it. Black history month is
in February, not June, and I find it odd that they were doing this as a
part of a Father's Day presentation.

It is apples and oranges, IMO.

I think in time more songs will surface, but I just don't think this
example is the 'tit' for the 'tat'. :) My personal opinion, of course.

I just came across this...praising an undeserving president (not to
mention congress and FEMA!) is not just an Obama phenomenon:

At the annual White House Easter Egg Roll, children from the stricken
Gulf Coast region serenaded First Lady Laura Bush with a song
praising the beleaguered Federal Emergency Management Agency. To the
tune of Hey Look Me Over, about 100 young children from Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama sang:

Our country's stood beside us People have sent us aid. Katrina could
not stop us, our hopes will never fade. Congress, Bush and FEMA People across our land Together have come to rebuild us and we join
them hand-in-hand!
