My backyard fence is concrete block and seven foot tall (5.5 on the sides and 6 on the front). I guess stone fences in new england would be the rural equivalent. Way too expensive for size.


New England drystone fences are free. The stones are picked from the fields as they are plowed...there's where having lots of kids comes in handy. In some places, stone is a better crop than anything the farmer plants. The wall can take years to build. I'd love to have one, but I don't plow up large areas, so I only have the stones from my garden area (I could still build a nice little wall, though, just from them).
