Did the google - very similar lifecycle and habits to the ticks we have here - except very tiny - bites sound somewhat like the ones from no-see-ums. I am starting to think our man-eating mosquitos are not so bad.
The article didn't mention one way or the other - are they seasonal.
The ticks we have here are very seasonal - they are out in small numbers pretty early once it warms up - then get quite bad in the early summer (some years worse than others - varies by year, likely based on moisture) and once the hot part of the summer hits, they taper off and then are done until the next spring. Apparently they can't stand the really hot, really dry weather.

Chiggers are small, almost microscopic mites that burrow under your skin
and cause severe itching. The only way to kill them is to cut off their
air supply, suffocating them. Most folks I know use fingernail polish
to accomplish that.
Google "chigger" and you will even see pictures.

Here is a question - what the heck is a "chigger" (mentioned in the
firewood thread). I know what ticks are and I assume that chiggers
are an insect that bites humans - but like a horsefly or like a
mosquito or ???
