My big fear would be the likelihood of hurricanes and tropical storms. Of course Appalachicola Bay is fairly protected. Just check your elevation and build accordingly, because tropical systems dump feet of water, not inches.
The allure of those springs, however, would be great. I know that, in the right place, you would have the best of all worlds...access to the ocean/beach...access to freshwater inland...and of course access to many ecosystems that would be life-sustaining. Climatologically, you probably won't need much heat, you have plenty for sun for solar, plenty of wind near the ocean...all good stuff...

No one replied to my question, which probably means no one is homesteading
near the beach. Nevertheless, I'll share this link just in case.

This is the Front Yard Gardener's blog from Niceville Florida. Okay, so
he's not on the beach and he's not exactly homesteading, but it's a handy
site with quick and dirty info for raising veggies in the north
Florida area. Apparently there are 4 garden opportunities each year. Cool
weather veggies may be planted in Jan and again in October, and warm weather
veg begins in March and again in August.

The prospect of living here long term becomes more appealing the longer I
consider it.

I know we've got desert homesteaders on the list; anyone making a go of
it near the hot sandy coast?
