Well, Bob, if nothing else, you're always good for a giggle <g>
I didn't ridicule you. I cautioned you and asked a question.
And, yes, what you have is a canner. A very small canner but a canner none the less.
You probably won't find a manual for it. Presto has their's online but Mirror doesn't. They also are only making 12 qt and 22 qt. models now.
I'd suggest you print out this link http://www.uga.edu/nchfp/publications/uga/using_press_canners.html
Gives you all the basics. You could also find a Presto manual. They all basically work the same. Well, the AA is different and they do make a BIG canner! http://www.pressurecooker-outlet.com/americancans.htm
Just a little tip, lightly vaseline the gasket before you go to use it the first time. And run a load of water filled jars to get the feel of how your canner and your stove work together. No two stoves/canners work the same.
And with some practice, you can be as prepared as Lynda <g>
Oh, and just a little precaution. Canning can be highly addictive! So proceed with caution.
Lynda

I just went & looked at my pressure cooker that lynda was ridiculing the other day. I don't know if it is a canner ; it says "mirro matic" & "16"
the cardboard thing on the top just says pressure cooker, not pressure canner, but the d*mn thing is so big, it almost certainly coukld be used for either, I think? I don't think it was ever used. It still has the other paper and cardboard stuff on the inside; the rubber gasket feels like new; and it still has the wire tray thing you would life jars or meats or something out with. I think it is a 16 quart?? That is probably what the "16" means. Is that big enough for pressure canning?. I think I paid $10 for it , 8 or none years ago an old dead person's (actually the dead probably all consider themselves the same age, being dead) estate sale. ..........
